How a Laminated Cam Lock Opens
The opening principle of a laminated cam lock is relatively simple. After the key is inserted into the lock cylinder, the key's gear mates with the cylinder, and then the key is twisted. As the key is twisted, the gear drives the cylinder, causing the cam inside the cylinder to rotate, unlocking the lock.
It is important to note that the main lock bolt of a laminated cam lock is stationary and retracts into the lock body only when the lock is closed. The cam, on the other hand, rotates and pushes outward when the lock is unlocked. When unlocking, the cam strikes the door frame, preventing the door from opening until the lock body is fully rotated.
Common Faults and Solutions
Key Unable to Insert the Lock Cylinder
This condition is usually caused by a blockage inside the lock cylinder or a worn gear. The gear needs to be cleaned or replaced.
Key Unable to Turn
If the key cannot be turned after being inserted into the lock cylinder, it may be that the key does not fit the cylinder properly or is damaged. A replacement key or a new one needs to be made. The handle won't retract.
A handle that doesn't retract may be caused by a loose or broken spring inside the lock cylinder. The spring needs to be replaced.
The cam doesn't extend.
This cam's inability to extend is caused by deformation of the door leaf or door frame and requires adjustment or replacement.
In short, a lamella cam lock is a common door lock. Its unlocking principle is that the cam inside the lock rotates when the key is turned, thereby unlocking the door. During use, common faults should be promptly addressed to ensure the proper function of the lamella cam lock.
